Gary Kirsten: Pakistani Players Require ‘Fine-Tuning’ for Success

Pakistan’s white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten, has emphasized the need for minor adjustments and fine-tuning of players to enhance performance.

Kirsten made these remarks during a meeting with mentors and head coaches at the Champions Cup in Faisalabad. The legendary South African opener noted that while individual players can win matches, it is teams that secure trophies and titles. He expressed confidence in Pakistan’s abundant cricketing talent, stating that players simply need slight adjustments to reach their potential.

Earlier, while commenting on the Champions One-Day Cup, Kirsten raised concerns about star pacer Shaheen Afridi, highlighting that he has bowled significantly more overs than any other fast bowler globally.

“Fast bowlers face immense pressure to deliver,” Kirsten said, referring to Afridi and Naseem Shah, who have shouldered much of the workload for Pakistan across all formats. “Shaheen has bowled three times more overs than any other fast bowler in the world over the last 18 months, which is alarming and could wear him down.”

Both Afridi and Naseem are key players in the Pakistan team across formats.
