Juggun Kazim Speaks Out on Criticism over Kissing ASP Shehrbano’s Hands
Earlier this year, TV host Juggun Kazim faced unexpected backlash after an interview where she kissed the hand of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi as a gesture of gratitude for her efforts against violence toward women.
The gesture quickly ignited criticism online, with some accusing Juggun of showing undue admiration to a public official, perhaps to curry favor. One viewer wrote, “I’m unsubscribing after seeing you kiss her hand,” while others described the interaction as “fake” and “staged.” Another comment questioned, “Why is she kissing her hand? She’s a police officer doing her job. Juggun, stop over-acting.”
Some critics also questioned her impartiality, speculating a familial connection to Shehrbano via Juggun’s brother-in-law, politician Mohsin Naqvi. “They’re all from the same family—I’m unsubscribing on moral grounds,” one user wrote.
Recently, Juggun addressed the controversy on Ahmad Ali Butt’s podcast, reflecting on the intense response to what she believed was a simple gesture. “I’m a very affectionate person,” Juggun explained. “If you’ve seen my shows, you’d know that.”
She clarified that she had no familial ties to Shehrbano, explaining, “I was formal and reserved because it was our first meeting. I’m not related to her.”
Juggun further shared the personal reason behind her gesture, recounting her own painful past in an abusive marriage. “I’ve experienced abuse in a previous relationship,” she revealed. “Shehrbano stands up for women in a way no one did for me back then. I just wanted to thank her—I had no other motive; I was simply being kind.”
Time will tell if her response will satisfy her critics.
