Meta Introduces Teen Accounts for a Safer Online Experience

Meta has launched new Teen Accounts on Instagram, designed to provide a safer environment for users under 16.

These accounts come with built-in safety features and stricter content controls to protect young users. To access unrestricted features, teens will need parental approval, giving parents more control over their child’s online experience.

Response to Concerns about Inappropriate Content

The introduction of Teen Accounts follows a report that revealed Instagram was recommending sexual content to teens. To address this, Meta has implemented measures to limit interactions and exposure to inappropriate material.

Positive Content Suggestions

Despite these restrictions, teens will still be able to explore their interests through topic-based content suggestions in categories like Animals & Pets, Soccer, Technology, and Cooking. These suggestions will be available through the Explore tab, allowing young users to engage with positive, tailored content.
