Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has raised alarm over the growing infiltration of criminals into the private security sector, describing it as a national “cancer.”

At the inauguration of a new advanced monitoring system, featuring eight additional security cameras around the Chinese Consulate, Odho emphasized the need for tougher laws to address this issue.

He disclosed that the Home Department is in the process of drafting new legislation to enhance regulation of private security firms, with a focus on ensuring greater accountability.

Odho also warned that security company owners who fail to thoroughly vet their staff could face criminal charges.

He confirmed that intelligence agencies, including the Special Branch and Intelligence Bureau, are investigating these breaches.

In addition to addressing security concerns, Odho highlighted efforts to clamp down on illegal vehicle modifications, such as tinted windows, unauthorized license plates, and the public display of firearms. Over the past week, authorities have issued nearly 6,000 traffic fines, registered 940 cases, and seized several vehicles in their crackdown on non-compliance.
